Millennials Want Wellness

The millennial doesn’t think of wellness as an add-on to his or her travel experience. According to a new keynote address from the popular New York-based lifestyle and news pub Well+Good, the demographic thinks it should be a seamless part of the whole. They expect “top fitness talent and healthy ‘clean’ food,” “experiences in nature and opportunities to unplug,” and properties that take wellness to “a new and deeper place with immersive and unique experiences.” In other words, it’s not just about the avocado toast (though offering that might help!).

The Health-Obsessed Hotel

Speaking of going beyond avocado toast, there’s a NYC hotel that is doing just that when it comes to wellness – the HGU New York. Among the wellness-centric offerings are a pillow menu (including feather-free for allergies, full-body and more), a registered nurse who administers vitamins via an IV, custom in-room guided meditation sessions and cryotherapy treatments. CNN’s Lilit Marcus approves: “It all felt very Liz-Taylor-goes-to-Baden-Baden, and I suddenly found myself wishing for a satin turban and giant diamond earrings to complete the look, not to mention a personal photographer to document the experience.”

Holiday Travel Stress Test

The holidays are rapidly approaching whether you like it or not – and for many of us that means the dreaded return of holiday travel stress. “During the holidays, family travel can be particularly stressful with more cars on road, longer lines at airports, an increased chance of flight delays, and weather-related cancellations,” writes Dan Rosenstein in Life Pulse Health. During this time, we exercise less and we get less rest. How can you reduce the stress? Huffington Post has tips, including spending quality time with friends and loved ones, avoiding the over-commercialization of the season and tempering unrealistic expectation. Our tip? Try Yoga on the Fly.

The Quietest Place on Earth

One sure-fire way to reduce stress? Silence. So instead of going home for the holidays, maybe you should try the so-called quietest place on earth. Travel + Leisure has found it – Orfield Laboratories in Minneapolis, where a small soundproofed room offers ultimate serenity. But be forewarned: it can be an unsettling experience. “What the chamber tends to do is it tends to scare people because when you get in the chamber, everything gets tremendously quiet,” says the lab’s owner Steve Orfield. “You feel like there’s pressure on your ears – but it’s actually pressure moving away from your ears.”
