What To Expect In 2022

It's 2022—and things remain uncertain as ever—in travel, wellness, lifestyle, media, and tech. But as always, TURNER has its eye on the future. Our leadership team has put together an overview of the trends that will shape the next 12 months, from AI newsrooms to total disconnection. Check out TURNER's crystal ball forecasts.

The Vegan Travel Boom

Veganism has been on the rise for many years now. And it's only getting more popular, thanks to rising ecological and health concerns. As a result, vegan travel isn't just a tiny niche anymore, writes Elaine Glusac in the New York Times. "The travel industry is countering with plant-centric hotels, restaurants, festivals and tours as veganism becomes increasingly associated with sustainable travel, and not just during what some people are calling Veganuary, an annual January campaign to highlight the plant-based diet in the month traditionally associated with good intentions."

Air Travel Is Changing

Just like virtually everything else, air travel is going to look different in 2022. TravelPulse has the details, including the fallout labor shortages, cheaper flights, new budget carriers, and mask mandates. "Will it get better? The answer is yes. When? That's a tougher question," says Bryan Del Monte, president of the Minnesota-based consultancy The Aviation Agency. "There are a couple of things acting as governors to everyone being able to return to travel, and the first one is the pandemic itself."

Hospitality Evolution

Marriott International has revealed a study detailing the key trends that appear poised to shape the hospitality industry in 2022. ""Our analysis of the prevalent trends in global development is particularly instructive as we continue to recover from this global pandemic," Stephanie Linnartz, President, Marriott International, said in a release. "We have been focused on working closely with our valued community of owners and franchisees throughout these unprecedented times."
