No Boys Allowed!

Girls are going it along in the outdoors this year. A growing 2017 travel trend sees more and more tour operators offering women-only itineraries, with everything from challenging adventures to more deluxe “glamping” experiences. “Whether you’re focused on learning new skills, conquering physical challenges, or just exploring a new place in the company of other women, there’s a trip to meet your needs,” reports Travel + Leisure in the mag’s handy roundup of 10 female-focused travel companies. We especially like the fitness-centric retreats of Fit & Fly Girl.

Put An End To Suitcase Struggles

Even the most seasoned traveler still stresses over what to pack the night before a big trip.  The New York Timesmay have cracked the code, with a guide to “maximizing suitcase space, minimizing your load and cutting down on wrinkles.” One key tip: lay out what you think you’ll need, then edit ruthlessly. “Fully get rid of the ‘just in case I need it’ category,” says Ben Nickel-D’Andrea, who writes at  No Mas Coach. “If and when you need it, you can buy it.” And hey, maybe you don’t actually have to bring that fourth pair of shoes?

ID Check

Identity theft – it only happens to other people, right? Think again. You’re more vulnerable to having private data stolen than you think. And that goes double for when you’re traveling. “In 2016, over 15 million Americans were victims of identity theft and it’s expected to go up by 16 percent this year,” reports USA Today. How can you stay safe? A few tips:

  • Don’t use public Wi-Fi to access financial information or purchase things online
  • Be careful what you post on social media
  • Use only bank ATMs
  • Change your passwords regularly

The Inner Lives of Travel Influencers

It’s a dream of many cubicle dwellers, but is traveling for a living all its cracked up to be? Behind those perfect Instagram panoramas, the life of social media travel stars can be … less than perfect. “Social media allows us to create a staged, ideal representation of our life,” Jarryd Salem of NOMADasaurus told CNN. “Followers should love every image, but take the perceived lifestyle of famous Instagrammers with a grain of salt.” And he should know. Salem and his girlfriend/partner Alesha Bradford have openly blogged about the pressures such a public lifestyle puts on their personal relationship.
