This week, Google announced a whole new line of products! The new Pixel phone includes a high power lens – and it can capture some pretty amazing imagery. With virtual reality back en vogue, Google stepped up its VR game quite a bit – and even came up with a headset that doesn’t look (or feel) terrible.  And watch out, Amazon Echo – Google Home comes with a built-in, voice responsive Google Assistant, as well as a very sleek and fun design. The company also unveiled its very own Wi-Fi hardware system. It's Google's world, we just live in it.

Anti-Social

Facebook, Snapchat and others are trying to change the way people see their platforms. The new mindset is less social, more media. Snapchat, for example, would prefer to be more known as a camera company, which will bring in more opportunities to make money. Ka-ching! “We see these social companies working to become something more and diversify their offerings in the spirit of innovation in the space,” Scott Linzer, VP of organic media at digital agency iCrossing, told Adweek. “Although many of our clients still think social is just a channel, we [are] working to educate brands [on] how social is continually innovating and ingrained in most forms of communications and leverage strategies to create competitive advantages for them with this understanding.”

Video-making software company Animoto rolled out a new tool to help marketers and companies create social videos for cheap. The tool allows users to upload existing creatives and easily add voiceovers. They are then formatted for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. With the expansion of video, this is just what budget-minded brands need to be able to incorporate varied media on their channels. “You don't need to know anything about video to create a video,” said Brad Jefferson, Animoto CEO.

Move Over, Craigslist

Who needs a garage sale, it’s 2016! Facebook's Marketplace, where users can make offers and find items directly on the platform, has been used by 450 million people! Beyond the exchange of goods, this feature is designed to help people make more connections within their communities. Currently, Facebook does not facilitate payment or delivery. Marketplace is only available mobile, but a desktop version is in the works. Let’s have a toast to more online shopping!
