TURNER PR PRESENTS THE WEEKLY DOWNLOAD 4.20.2012

Before we close out another work week and pack our bags for weekend adventures, here’s a roundup of this week’s hottest interactive highlights, including new Twitter chats, Coke’s partnership with Spotify, Elle’s attempt at Facebook commerce, an awesome fashion app and the launch of ads on Tumblr. Have a great Friday from the whole Turner PR crew! Turner PR Gets Detials on #ExpChat from Spencer Spellman If you are anything like us than you love Twitter chats. In November Twitter chat  #Expchat was launched as part of a collaboration between  Expedia and Spencer Spellman of  The Traveling Philosopher. Read the full interview with tips for newbies on Turner PR's SpinKitchen. Coke Taps Spotify for Partnership Coca-Cola is mounting a massive music-based global marketing campaign pegged to the London 2012 Olympics, so it makes sense that Coke would partner with the leading music app (Spotify) on the biggest social network (Facebook). Although the details of this sponsorship aren’t finalize or even available to curious people, there is no doubt this partnership will change Spotify’s status from “start-up” to “mainstream.” Elle Tries Facebook Commerce, Launches Shoppable Trend Guide This week ELLE magazine launched a new ecommerce feature on their Facebook page. The magazine is curating a series of products featured in a pop-up “Trend Report” on its fan page that links directly to the purchase pages for a range of retailers and brands. Users can follow an ELLE “Lexicon” of tags that let them “Love” an item, add it to their “Want” list or just declare on the social net that they already “Own it.” Color Forecast App Scours Streets For Trends, Shows You What to Wear The saying “there’s an app for that” is actually true. With the help of European clothing brand, Pimkie, and their Color Forecast app women now have a new tool to help them get dressed in the morning. High-tech cameras installed in Paris, Milan and Antwerp scan the streets, calculating trending colors around the clock, and report back to fashion-savvy ladies in real-time.  Sound familiar? We thought it was a little reminiscent of a scene from Josie and the Pussycats. Dashboard Ads Coming to Tumblr, CEO Says Tumblr, the five-year-old blogging platform with 52,352,325 blogs and counting, has finally decided that making a little money might be nice. Speaking at Ad Age’s Digital Conference yesterday, Tumblr’s founder and CEO David Karp announced that the site will start featuring sponsored “Radar” posts on users’ dashboards starting May 2. Although details about purchasing ads aren’t available yet, the move comes the same week that  Google Search results, projected that searches for the word “Tumblr,” will eclipse those for the more generic term “blog" before the end of 2012.
