Unplugging with Audley Travel

Written by Emma DeVadder | September 3, 2015

Recently named one of the 8  coolest companies in Boston, it’s no surprise that  Audley Travel knows a thing or two about putting together super cool vacations. As we head into a busy Fall season, we’ve rounded up some of the best places Audley recommends incorporating into itineraries, providing travelers with the unique experience of unplugging in some of the world’s most remote destinations. We’re relaxing at just the thought of these!

For a luxury getaway:

Borneo: Guests fly into Lahad Datu and then enjoy a 3 hour 4WD trek into the rainforest to the deluxe  Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Costa Rica: The El Remanso and Lapa Rios properties offer luxury accommodations for guests, but are truly removed from it all and are located in the middle of a verdant rainforest an hour outside of Puerto Jimenez.

For an adventure vacation:

Ecuador: The Huaorani Lodge is located in a true Amazonian village and guests can enjoy hiking and canoeing while staying by the Shiripuno River.

Cambodia: Guests can enjoy the travel on the water to the 4 Rivers Eco Lodge, which is only accessible by boat, or Rajabori Villas, which is on an island in the middle of the Mekong river. Activities include fishing, trekking, biking, and kayaking.

For a relaxing trip:

Laos: Housed on an island in the Mekong River, each room at La Folie has a private balcony that offers magnificent views across the river towards the ruins of Wat Phou.

Vietnam: Located in the lower Sapa Valley, the Topas Ecolodge offers simple and comfortable rooms with beautiful views of the Tonkinese Alps.

For a cultural experience:

Laos: Lung Say Lodge overlooks the Mekong River and guests can enjoy a traditional dance performance by Hmong, Khmu and Lue artists.
