Luxury Fashion Takes Over Instagram

You’ve heard it before, but it still bears repeating: the way to millennials’ wallets is through their social media feeds. Luxury fashion brands – Gucci, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton among them – are seeking out a younger audience on Instagram, and having serious success. According to CNBC, “Gucci is so successful at attracting younger customers that 50 percent of its sales are to millennials, while the figure for Saint Laurent (also a Kering brand) is even larger at 65 percent.” The brands’ feeds are filled with celebrity images that showcase aspirational offerings.

The Royal Effect

Of course, celebrity endorsements can have a major effect for brands that are a bit smaller than Gucci. Case in point, some of the brands that have been launched into the spotlight by Meghan Markle, the fiancée of Prince Harry. She’s drawn attention (and sales) to a small British handbag company called DeMellier London – there’s currently a pretty huge backlog on orders, in case you’re wondering. The icing on this particular cake? Each bag sold funds vaccinations for a child in need.
