Before & After
What kind of Internet imagery is most effective in getting people into a fitness frame of mind?
Shape says before-and-after pics are the most inspiring. In a recent survey, 91 percent of the women said transformation photos helped them get excited about setting new fitness goals. It all goes back to storytelling. “The reason people upload a transformation, whether it’s about weight loss, weight gain, drug addiction to sober, it’s to tell a story, to show their story to hope that someone somewhere will relate to them,” says Kayla Itsine, whose Bikini Body Guide went viral recently. “It makes you have so much respect and compassion."
Fitness/Wellness/Beauty
Fitness, wellness and beauty are all interlinked –
and the fitness industry is starting to adjust. According to the Los Angeles Times’ Rachel Strugatz, “Trainers as well as studios and gyms ranging from boutique to big box are looking to extend their reach beyond the actual workouts they're peddling, whether it's creating protein powders to fuel the body from the inside out or segueing into beauty.” That means that we’re going to see more and more collaborations between fitness, wellness and beauty brands. Feeling good, looking good – sounds good!
Gym Selfies
But can fitness and more superficial concerns go to far? One gym in Fairfield, Connecticut, recently got the Internet in an uproar over its plans for a “selfie room.” That’s right,
an entire space set apart for members to take sweaty, post-workout pics. It’s a tricky situation that many claimed would turn gyms into places where people are more concerned about how they look than how their fitness regime is going. Shape says: “You shouldn't be ashamed of taking a selfie, at the gym or otherwise, but just make sure your goals have more to do with lunges than likes.” What do you think? Tweet us

Crystal Ball
What might the fitness studio of the future look like?
Well + Good is looking into its crystal ball. They’re seeing more art incorporated into the studio space, creating highly unique environments. Also on the horizon: personalized, digital lockers that might even have thumbprint identification tech – no more locks or easy to forget codes! And perhaps most amazingly, some fitness studios might start incorporating virtual reality elements into workouts. Bring on the future!
