Despite some unseasonably warm weather, the snowsports industry’s annual extravaganza, SIA, rolled through Denver in late January. Turner PR was on hand to check out the latest and greatest in skiing and snowboarding. As always, we were on the lookout for trends.
"Retro, retro, retro," Alex Aberman, senior media manager, reports. "Brands are taking style cues from the 70s and 80s resulting in bright colors, heritage-inspired sweaters and updated vintage designs. The industry itself has tons of heritage and it was fun seeing some of that come through in the present day collections."
"Because I’m on the hunt for a new pair of mountain specs myself, I noticed a lot of brands making moves with innovative new goggle technology," Emily Walsh, digital account executive, says. "Bern introduced its new goggle collection featuring LENS POP technology and spherical lenses to provide better peripheral vision with less glare and minimal fogging while allowing for easy adjustment to lighting conditions. Von Zipper also debuted its True Def lens, which allows different light spectrums to come through depending on environmental conditions."
The Turner team didn't just stay behind the scenes, however. We hosted a live styling session, with industry experts offering their views on slope style, including alpine, tech, après and more. A few team members — Whitt Kelly, Emily Walsh and Logan Hayes — even discovered their inner supermodels and strutted their stuff for the panel, wearing items from Eider, Patagonia, and Spider.
