Public Relations as my future? I think YES! Thanks to PRSA’s Shadow Day and Turner Public Relations my fuzzy decision of PR has been affirmed. I spent the day following the geniuses behind Turner Public Relations. What they had to share with me is something that I could not have found anywhere else. I took a lot in, but the top five things that I will take with me into my future as a Public Relations specialist are…
My “shadowee” Ashley Taufen, a couple other beautiful ladies and I, went to the PRSA Colorado luncheon where we heard Dallas Lawrence, Chief Global Digital Strategist, Burson-Marsteller, give a talk on “How to use Social Media to Get Ahead of Your Next Crisis.” That was a wonderful presentation! So be on your toes and ready for everything that is thrown at you.
Social media and everything else change on a regular basis, so you have to stay up to date.
Learn how to spell otherwise you are not even going to get looked at.
Know the company. Don’t just look over their website right before your interview but follow them so that you know their trends. Bring up their clients or specialties in the interviews. It shows you’re genuinely interested. I spent some of my time learning digital media versus traditional media. The truth is you need both to be as successful as possible. Digital and social media is so the way of the future. It is a good thing that my generation is growing up on this. I don’t know if I can even fathom a life without Facebook, Twitter, etc. So it is definitely a good thing that I can take my growing up experience to my “big girl job” in the future. I mean, what other job wants you to have Facebook on your computer?
AWESOME. THANK YOU TURNER FOR THIS AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!
