In recent weeks, Jordan Gover and Madeleine (Maddie) Towne – our winter interns – have been chatting with the Senior Staff at our Denver office. This is the fourth in an ongoing series of interviews with our in-house experts on how to become a PR pro.
Logan Hayes, a Senior Account Executive, delivers impressive results for TPR’s travel and tourism division. Logan spent seven years working on opposite ends of the country, building relationships with the media (and sometimes celebrities) in Los Angeles and New York City. Her love of ski and sun landed her in the middle of the country, and she now calls Denver home.
Logan fell into public relations by way of the fashion industry, bringing with her the ability to forecast next season’s trends and plan successful events. She believes these two skills, coupled with media relations, contribute to her success in the public relations industry.
“With PR, you get the best of every world,” says Logan. “You form relationships with the media, learn how to get coverage and develop relationship building skills.”
Not to mention the client-facing aspect of public relations: Logan loves working with different brands and never having the same workday twice. Dealing with A- to C-list celebrities on the red carpet, Logan quickly learned the ropes on what it takes to be a PR professional. Her number one rule?
“You can’t fake it. You have to really enjoy what you’re doing because it’s not a 9-to-5 job.”
During her time out of the office, you can find her skiing Aspen and Vail or learning to road bike, in functional and fashionable gear. Logan may have a closet dedicated to ski gear and clothing, but do not call her a snow bunny – she’s been competitive skiing since she could walk. Her favorite spot for an après ski celebration? Austria. “At 2pm, Germans are dancing on tables in ski boots, the fog machines are going, and people are drinking Jäger and pints of beer.”
Logan is also enthusiastic about food. Binge watching The Food Network has encouraged her to try different recipes and she dreams of covering a wall in her house with restaurant menus. Her biggest advice for aspiring PR professionals is to “be able to multi-task, juggle, and do it with a smile on your face. You don’t have to love every aspect of it but at the end of the day, be really happy.”
