13 Horror Movies About Travel - TURNER

Written by Tyler Wilcox | October 13, 2017
At TURNER, we love traveling – and we love horror movies about traveling. In honor of Friday the 13 th (and Halloween right around the corner), here are 13 fright flicks about how vacations don’t always go as planned …

The Blair Witch Project

A camping excursion gone terribly wrong. In this 1990s chiller, three documentary filmmakers head for the woods in search of the mythical Blair Witch … and get much more than they bargained for.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Road trip! A group of friends are traveling through the Lone Star State when they come across a house full of cannibals – including one with a love of a certain power tool.

Cabin in the Woods

Rest, relaxation … and horror. Drew Goddard’s Cabin in the Woods follows five college friends to a remote cabin, where they encounter a zombified family with a need for fresh brains.

Hostel

A rambling college trip through Europe goes awry when the characters pay a visit to the worst hostel of all time. Things get gross.

An American Werewolf in London

Traveling abroad can be bad for your health, clearly. In this early 1980s classic, a college student on a walking tour of England encounters a werewolf – and becomes one himself.

Turistas

OK, backpacking through London isn’t great. How about backpacking through Brazil? No way. The heroes of this 2006 flick find themselves in the sights of an underground organ-harvesting ring.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

And speaking of Brazil … In this sequel, the gang from I Know What You Did Last Summer try to forget their troubles with a trip to sunny Rio De Janeiro. Guess what? Things don’t work out as planned.

The Ruins

OK, how about Mexico as a nice place for a getaway? In The Ruins, two American couples explore an ancient Mayan ruin, only to discover that supernatural forces are out to get them.

The Hills Have Eyes

Don’t head for the hills! The Carter family is taking a road trip from Ohio to Los Angeles when they run into another family … who are very weird and very scary.

Vacancy

Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale are a married couple who check into a nondescript motel for the night. What should be just another night turns into a terrifying fight for their lives.

Psycho

Of course, Vacancy isn’t the first of the great horror movies to make the most of a seemingly non-threatening motel. In Alfred Hitchcock’s suspense classic, a young woman books a room at the Bates Motel, which is run by a strange guy named Norman and his even stranger mother. Taking a shower was never the same again.

The Birds

Hitchcock followed another young woman on a trip out of town for The Birds, one of his classic horror movies. But instead of a knife-wielding maniac, she’s attacked by thousands upon thousands of homicidal birds.

Snakes on a Plane

Air travel can be a nightmare – especially when there are thousands of snakes joining you for your flight. Luckily, Samuel L. Jackson is aboard, and he’s ready to take care of business.
