We all want to know what’s next for businesses on social media. But unless your crystal ball is top-notch, it’s hard to predict the future. Minute Hack has some pretty good ideas about what’s around the next bend, however. One thing they’re sure about: businesses shouldn’t be relying on paid advertising. According to Tim Hyde, it’s time to be “more strategic with their content budgets and are relying on their community for user generated content, which helps build brand equity and generates content for performance assets.”

Ditching Facebook

The future isn’t looking especially bright for Facebook. According to Business Insider, Generation Z (any person born after the year 1996) prefer other platforms. “Teenagers are moving away from Facebook in favor of other services like YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram,” writes Lisa Eadicicco. Additionally, in a survey of 1,884 people who fall into the Generation Z age group, “about 30 percent of those polled voted for Facebook when responding to a question about which social media platforms they used to use but have since abandoned.”

Pivot to Video, part II

Remember when brands were pivoting to video? That didn’t quite work out. But video remains a powerful content marketing tool. Which type of video is right for your brand, though? Media Update has rounded up the five social media videos that will work for any business. This includes DIY (do-it-yourself) videos, vlogs, and influencer videos. “Social media videos are shared 12 times more than the images and texts combined,” the editors write. “If that is not convincing enough, it has been observed that 64 percent of the consumer commit to buy after watching brand videos featured on social media.”

Pay Up, Influencers

Instagram influencers love ice cream trucks. Do ice cream trucks love Instagram influencers? Maybe not. According to PetaPixel, LA’s CVT Soft Serve truck is tired of influencers’ freeloading ways. Anybody who asks for a $4 ice cream cone for free will pay $8. “We truly don’t care if you’re an Influencer, or how many followers you have,” reads a post on CVT’s Instagram page. “We will never give you a free ice cream in exchange for a post on your social media page.” Influencers beware!
