Five Reasons to Fall in Love with San Luis Obispo County

Five Reasons to Fall in Love with San Luis Obispo County

TURNER is in love – with our newest destination client, SLO CAL (San Luis Obispo County). It’s the ultimate California getaway, bringing together all the elements that have attracted travelers to the Golden State over the years. There are plenty of reasons to fall in love with SLO CAL, but we’ve narrowed it down for you here.

It’s an outdoor adventure hotspot. SLO CAL is a destination in motion, whether you’re exploring Lake Lopez in Arroyo Grande, climbing the coastal dunes in Oceano or zipping down the Bob Jones Bike Trail from San Luis Obispo to Avila Beach. Outdoor adventurers will find a seemingly endless array of quintessentially California activities all within a relatively small geographic area. Don’t believe us? Well, in 2017, Outside Magazine named SLO CAL as one of the  Top 25 Best Towns Ever. Especially un-missable are the Dinosaur Caves, just south of Pismo Beach, where you can kayak to hidden coves and ruggedly beautiful cliffs. The Dinosaur Caves also boast some of the most impressive kelp forests on the Central Coast, making it a favorite for playful otters, seals, and sea lions.

Wellness is within reach. SLO CAL’s active adventures pair perfectly with the wealth of wellness offerings, providing peace of mind and body to match the thrills of the outdoors. Sink into one of Sycamore Mineral Springs therapeutic hot tubs nestled amongst 100 wooded acres near Avila Beach. Hook up with The Paddleboard Company and head to Tidelands Park in Morro Bay for a SUP Yoga session out on the water. You’ll learn to adapt to the motion of the board, while strengthening core and leg muscles. Or flex your brain while perusing the art scene in Cambria, SLO CAL’s artistic village amongst the pines.

SLO is an undiscovered wine destination. Move over, Napa. SLO CAL is filled with some of California’s best vineyards. SLO Wine Country includes two small adjoining American Viticulture Areas—the Edna Valley and Arroyo Grande Valley—and other nearby winegrowing areas. One of the best ways to experience the wine scene here is a bike ride on the scenic Tiffany Ranch Road Loop. Set your sights on Paso Robles Wine Country and meander through the rolling picturesque terrain where plenty of stops to taste wines await at such award winning wineries as Halter Ranch, AronHill, and JUSTIN Winery.

Amazing attractions for the whole family. SLO CAL is home to some of California’s most famous must-visits – Hearst Castle, William Randolph Hearst’s magnificent San Simeon home, visit the historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosao and the gorgeous stretch of sand known as Pismo Beach. But there are also lesser-known gems waiting to be discovered, such as Cayucos, where nostalgic California surf culture is thriving, or Atascadero’s Charles Paddock Zoo, where rare Malayan tigers, spider monkeys, meerkats, and many more unique species romp and play. And don’t forget to road trip north on California’s iconic Highway 1 to Ragged Point for rugged coastline and Big Sur-esque vibes.

A perfect California climate.  There’s no off-season in SLO CAL. Located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles along California’s Central Coast, the region captures nearly 300 days of sunshine a year. No matter what time of year you decide to visit, you’ll be able to experience the best that SLO has to offer.
