Last weekend, Curtis James Jackson III — better known as 50 Cent, the rapper, actor, and entrepreneur — stopped in Denver to promote EFFEN® Vodka at a few liquor stores in the area. As any 20-something who grew up in the Kansas suburbs would, I attended the bottle signing event to not only meet Mr. Jackson and buy a bottle of vodka with his signature on it, but also to give him the biggest hug he’s ever received from a 20-something who grew up in the Kansas suburbs.
When my friends and I arrived, my immediate thought was: “50 knows what he’s doing.” With an hour and a half to go before the event began, the line of fans was already outside the door. The Denver police were posted up and brand representatives were handing out cards printed with EFFEN ® social handles and drink recipes. That’s when it hit me: TURNER needs to hire 50 Cent. Let me tell you why.
50 utilizes media relationships to secure coverage. Denver’s local hip-hop/R&B radio station was advertising 50 Cent’s appearance a week in advance of the event. They were also present at the bottle signing with a tent and radio personalities on-site, along with camera crews live-streaming the event. We value great relationship builders and it’s clear 50 knows how to get some killer coverage.
He has a passion for lifestyle products. Not only does he own a clothing company, but most of his crew was also outfitted in The Unit snapbacks. They even arrived fashionably late. I know 50 would work great with our lifestyle team, because G Unit once shared the same building with TURNER in NYC. Plus, you can’t tell me he wouldn’t look great rocking this Nixon watch.
50 works hard. I don’t think just anyone would be able to stand in an enclosed space for three hours straight, taking flawless photos with hundreds of fans. He knows how to get the job done. From the purchasing of the vodka to the corralling of the masses, Mr. Jackson and his team had planned every aspect of the event perfectly. We also respect that he’s not afraid to admit his (financial) weaknesses; our seasoned staff can help him in that area – as long as he’s willing to get better.
He knows the music and alcohol industries – our culture welcomes both. 50’s no rookie when it comes to the rap game or indulging in a good drink and we can get down with that. In fact, we’re known to have the occasional throwback rap Fridays and happy hours in the office ourselves. We’d also love to introduce him to the local craft beer scene.
