LA On The Runway

Fashion’s traditional capitals are New York, London, Milan and Paris. But there’s a new contender in the mix – Los Angeles. According to The Business of Fashion, key designers are making La-La Land into a stylish spot with industry cred and dynamic innovations. “LA is no longer an exotic destination, but a bona fide stop on the fashion circuit,” writes Lauren Sherman. “It’s not just luxury brands — there’s a creative class of cool kids doing things differently — and thriving,” says LA-based fashion consultant Katherine Ross, who often advises and mentors young designers in the city. “People just like it here.”

Incredibles Fashion

One thing’s for sure – fashion’s most powerful force in 2018 comes to us from southern California. She’s also a fictional character. That’s right, we’re talking about The Incredibles 2’s Edna Mode, the pint-sized designer responsible for the superfamily’s eye-catching costumes. As in the original, Edna threatens to steal the show in the sequel with her unfiltered opinions, sassy comebacks and fabulous eye for detail. “She uses her brilliant mind to find solutions to everyday problems,” writes Racked’s Carlyle Wisel. “Her models not only look superb but are also capable of saving the world while doing so; she elevates heroes as aspirational fashion idols in lieu of actresses and celebrity offspring.”

#Trending Summer Looks

We’d love to ask Edna what her picks for summer looks are, but she’s too busy (and too fictional, remember?). So we’re looking to Instagram, where trends are born. Glamour has picked out some of the hottest fashion options for the hottest months. Belted swimsuits, smocked tops, silky midi skirts and more seem to be what stylish ‘grammers are leaning towards this year. However you decide to put together your summer look, do it with confidence. Maybe you’ll even be able to pull off the so-called “ ugly fashion” trend. You know what we’re talking about – orthopedic sandals, chunky sneakers, “mom” jeans … It just goes to show that looking good is 90 percent attitude.
