Buzzworthy Travel Experiences in Honor of National Honey Month
Ashley Cothran : September 13, 2012
September is National Honey Month and because we love any excuse to indulge in our inner-Winnie The Pooh’s, we’ve compiled our favorite travel offerings involve all things honey. Enjoy!
Honey Lavendar Soap from The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa
The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa: The iconic Denver hotel (and
newest member of the Autograph Collection) has introduced a number of innovative offerings that incorporate the honey from its own rooftop colony of bees. Taking the sustainability to a whole new level, the hotel's "Bee Royalty Initiative" includes several ways to indulge. Guests can sip on the Rooftop Honey Saison summer beer brewed by Wynkoop Brewing Company and the hotel’s honey-infused bourbon available in Ship Tavern or book the Queen Bee Body Scrub treatment on the menu in the Spa. To take a piece of the sweet stuff with you, snag the Honey Lavender Soap, Honey Lip Balm or jars of the pure, organic honey in the Spa Boutique with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Denver Beekeeper Association.
Sandos Caracol Eco-Resort & Spa: The property located in the tropical Caribbean paradise of Riviera Maya, is an all-inclusive property that infuses local culture and traditions for an authentic Maya-centric experience. As part of the property’s
extensive Xcalacoco Experience, the resort is home to an on-site Maya honeybee colony to aid in protecting the endangered species. Twice a year, a Mayan Shaman performs a bee ceremony ritual that requests permission from the bees to extract honey for use in the property’s therapeutic Maya spa rituals such as the Nourishing Ancient Maya Ritual, a great source of vitamins and nutrients for the skin.
Travaasa Austin: The experiential Resort & Spa situated in a serene locale overlooking the scenic Texas Hill country, incorporates local flavor into all aspects of the property. Amongst the resort’s array of original treatments is the new Hill Country Honey Bee Massage and Body Treatment. This blissful, organic massage and body treatment combines the healing properties of honey with ginger and rosemary, to nourish, moisturized and exfoliate the skin. The treatment incorporates a soothing bee propolis compress, followed by a myofacial massage using warm organic honey and ginger massage oil. The treatment is topped off with a nourishing facial mask of royal jelly, bee proplois, jojoba and avacado oils. A portion of the proceeds from this treatment will be donated to the Texas Beekeepers Association. For additional information on any of these properties or offerings, please contact
