This Ad Breaks Just About Every Rule of Travel Marketing

Travel ads are supposed to make travel look fun, right? China Airlines is trying something different. The brand’s new “What Travel Brings You” campaign is a hilariously bleak look at the life you return to after a vacation. The counterintuitive approach is working: six million people have watched the ad since it dropped last month. Some people are even watching it multiple times. Breaking the rules works sometimes!

Travel Mistakes

Even if you’re a seasoned world traveler, you still can make mistakes. Especially when it comes to money. CNBC is here to help. From using public transportation (forget expensive rideshares) to budget-stretching apps, they have seven tips that will help you keep your cash in your wallet while you travel. “People tend to overspend on vacation because the excuse ‘I’m on vacation, I’m treating myself’ is easily validated or because they don’t budget correctly,” said Ashley Rossi, editor at online travel magazine SmarterTravel.

Trips For Introverts

The solo travel trend continues to grow. It’s a golden age for introverts who want to see the world. But what are the best trips for those who love to explore on their own? Travel + Leisure’s Claire Trageser has rounded up some appealing solo travel options. She writes that there are “great travel destinations that are perfect for introverts, where you can maybe have some social time and then some precious alone time where it’s quiet and less crowded to give you time to really recharge on your own.”

Green Summer

However you travel this summer, you should try to do it in the most eco-friendly fashion. E – The Environmental Magazine has seven tips for traveling sustainably and responsibly during your summer getaways. “Getting away for a vacation need not mean destroying the planet we all share,” the editors write. “By following just a few savvy tips, you can get away for a bit without leaving a huge scar on Mother Earth in your wake.”
