2012 Election Race is on for Inaugural Hotel Offerings

With 53 days until Election Day, and 129 days until the inauguration, the Presidency is on the minds of all Americans.  But, whether voting red or blue this election season, travelers are sure to win by staying at some of the country’s most presidentially-significant hotels. Below is just a sampling of our favorite past president haunts, presidential suites and presidential packages to make the Turner PR travel ballot this year: The Madison Hotel by Destination Hotels & Resorts, Washington DC: The Madison, whose opening in 1963 was attended by President JFK, has long been the hotel of choice for diplomats, entertainers, world leaders and international delegations. The property recently completed a 22 million dollar redesign that included all guest rooms and public spaces.
  • The Madison’s Political Cocktail Party - PostScript, the lobby bar at The Madison will be offering two distinct cocktails now through the Inauguration and will be looking to fans of The Madison’s Facebook page to get creative and come up with a third cocktail that will be made available during Inauguration. The winning cocktail will join the hotel’s Massachusetts Mule and The Great Debate at the Lobby Bar from January 18 through the 22. The winner of The Madison’s Political Cocktail Party will receive a weekend stay at The Madison.
The Lansdowne Resort by Destination Hotels & Resorts, Leesburg, VA: Guests are treated like American Royalty with the property’s Presidential Treatment Package, which  includes accommodations in the resort’s Presidential Suite, private limousine service to Washington DC, an exclusive driving tour of the Nation’s Capital covering all the main attractions, and a 3-hour charter along the Potomac River on the Presidential Yacht, also known as the U.S.S. Sequoia. Additionally guests will enjoy a relaxing couples massage and a special chef-prepared four-course dinner, with wine, served en-suite.  Package price, a Presidential $17,000 for two people.  For details, click here. The Brown Palace Hotel, Denver, CO: Celebrating its 120 th anniversary this year, the iconic Brown Palace Hotel & Spa in the heart of downtown Denver has been visited by every president since Teddy Roosevelt in 1905, with the exception of Calvin Coolidge and Obama. The namesake suites at The Brown honor past presidents – Roosevelt, Reagan and Eisenhower Suites (complete with dented mantle piece from Ike’s golf practice). Fun Facts from Presidents at The Brown Palace
  • Teddy Roosevelt was the first president to stop at The Brown Palace Hotel in 1905. During his bear hunting trip to Colorado, he spoke at an elaborate banquet where the group smoked an impressive 1,500 cigars
  • President Eisenhower loved to fish. To please the president, the hotel created an ice carving of a mountain complete with pine trees and a miniature lake at the base of the mountain in which swam three tiny trout.
  • The Gold Room on the second floor of the hotel, site of President Clinton’s oval office for the Denver Summit of the Eight, was also the room President Eisenhower used to pen some of his memoirs.
  • The Brown Palace Club, located on the second floor, served as campaign headquarters for Dwight D. Eisenhower prior to his election as president.
The Driskill Hotel by Destination Hotels & Resorts, Austin, TX: The Driskill is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Austin, TX. In 1934, The Driskill’s fine dining restaurant (The Driskill Grill) played host to a first date between the future 36th President, Lyndon B. Johnson, and his future First Lady, Lady Bird. The Driskill remained one of their most cherished destinations, as LBJ awaited the return of the results in his successful bid for the Vice Presidency in partnership with JFK, in 1960, and returned again in 1964 to await the news of his successful re-election as President.
  • Where to stay in Presidential style: LBJ Suite – located on the hotel’s grand second floor, the LBJ Suite is a permanent fixture, in honor of his legacy at the hotel. The one-bedroom suite offers over 800 square feet of living space featuring 16-ft ceilings. Rates from $750.
